The choir was established in 2006 by Andrzej Kosendiak. They soon found recognition for performing a cappella repertoire as well as large oratorio, opera, and symphonic forms. They have worked with such renowned conductors as Giovanni Antonini, Bob Chilcott, Iván Fischer, Jacek Kaspszyk, Stephen Layton, James MacMillan, Paul McCreesh, Zubin Mehta, Masaaki Suzuki, Kirill Petrenko, and Krzysztof Penderecki. They have performed in over three hundred concerts at such venues as the Berlin Philharmonic, Barbican Centre and Royal Albert Hall in London, Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Philharmonie de Paris and Salle Pleyel in Paris. A significant part of the ensemble’s work is premiering choral and vocal-instrumental music by such composers as Krzysztof Penderecki, Agata Zubel, Roxanna Panufnik, Rafał Augustyn, Paweł Łukaszewski, Julia Wolfe, and Bob Chilcott.

One of the most important achievements in the NFM Choir’s discography is a series of recordings conducted by Paul McCreesh (published by Winged Lion) honoured with prestigious awards, as well as two albums with music by Bob Chilcott: The Seeds of Stars and Canticles of recorded for the Signum label. Their recording of De profundis was awarded the Fryderyk 2017 in the „Album of the year – choral, oratorio, and operatic music” category. Other recent releases featuring the ensemble include: Ubi caritas, Music of Trust, Stanisław Moniuszko’s Phantoms, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, as well as albums with works by Marcin Józef Żebrowski and Witold Lutosławski. Beginning with the 2021/2022 season, the artistic director of the NFM Choir is Lionel Sow.
