Maciej Tomasiewicz - NOSPR

Maciej Tomasiewicz graduated from the Academy of Music in Katowice in composition, theory of music and symphonic-operatic conducting (Doctor of Musical Arts) in prof. S. Bywalec’s class. He participated in conducting masterclasses taught by the likes of M. Dittrich, G. Chmura, J. Kaspszyk and L. Livingstone. From 2014 to 2021, he worked with the Archetti Chamber Orchestra of the City of Jaworzno as a violinist and conductor. Tomasiewicz was a successful conductor with the Polish Youth Symphony Orchestra in Bytom and the Karol Szymanowski Youth Symphony Orchestra in Katowice. He is a two-time beneficiary of the National Institute of Music and Dance Conductor-resident programme. He has worked as assistant to such great conductors as: G. Chmura, M. Halls, M. Jurowski, J. Kaspszyk, M. Klauza, Ch. König, A. Liebreich, J. Maksymiuk, L. Morlot, T. Kozłowski, A. Wit. In the role of assistant conductor, he has also worked with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice and the Grand Theatre in Łódź. He conducted concerts with such ensembles as the Warsaw Philharmonic, the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, The NFM Wrocław Philharmonic, the Beethoven Academy Orchestra, the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra, the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra, the Polish Radio Orchestra, the Gorzów, Kalisz, Sudety, Silesian, Świętokrzyskie and Zielona Góra philharmonics, the Toruń Symphony Orchestra, and the New Music Orchestra. Maciej Tomasiewicz enjoys a close working relationship with the Silesian Opera, where he has conducted ballet premieres: Scheherazade/Medea with music by M. Rimsky-Korsakov and S. Barber, Salt of the Black Earth with music by Polish composers, The secret of Requiem (directed by M. Znaniecki), as well as a revival of G. Puccini’s Tosca, P. Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, J. Strauss’ The Gypsy Baron, G. Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love, and S. Moniuszko’s The Haunted Manor. At the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic in Białystok, he conducted such operas as G. Bizet’s Carmen and G. Puccini’s Turandot. In the 2016-2017 season, he worked as an assistant conductor at the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra. From 2019 to 2022, he held the position of assistant to the conductor and artistic director A. Boreyko at the Warsaw Philharmonic. In 2021, he received the Decoration of Honor Meritorious for Polish Culture. From 2020 to 2022, he served as artistic director of the Silesian Chamber Orchestra. Beginning with the 2022/2023 season, he has been deputy Musical Director at the Silesian Opera. He has performed at such festivals as: Warsaw Autumn, Saaremaa Opera Festival, Brand New Music, La Folle Journée de Varsovie. The main current in this versatile artist’s rich repertoire is that of Polish music. So far, he has recorded pieces by such composers as: R. Bukowski, H. M. Górecki, E. Knapik, K. Lipiński, P. Moss, and S. B. Poradowski. Works of particular import for him are those by B. Szabelski, as he has prepared new editions, performances and recordings of the composer’s Etude, Magnificat, Sinfonietta, and 2nd Podlasie Symphony.
