In the C major Fantasy, the sound of the violin emerges as if from the depths of the piano's background, balancing its garland-like ornaments. It's one of Schubert's ideas that surprises by heading directly towards its goal: building emotional tension. It culminates in variations on his own song but is also present in the lighter sections.
